I Was His Puppet

I Was His Puppet

A Poem by Brittany Russum
"

This poem was written as a way of coping with the pain I experienced while understanding a failed relationship as I entered a new one.

"
A butterfly is free
A child screams with glee,
but what about me?

I am locked inside a cage
My heart filled with rage
I fell in love with a man
I thought loved me.

But he didn't love me
I was his puppet
something he could control

They warned me of the danger
falling in love with the stranger.

With broken wings and
broken dreams
I was his puppet

I was left to
cry in the dark.

Leaving a single tear as his mark.
He left with everything including
my heart.

I was his puppet
nothing more.

This is a wonderful piece.
It speaks of betrayal and oppression in the name of love and romance.
Congratulations!!!
