Autumn Court

Autumn Court

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin

Heavy mist presence, extend your scepter:
Horn of power-Autumn!
I see you holding court; calling attention your realm.
Flashing banners wave! Gilded leaf confetti lists through the air.
Blood fire pulled from very earth, strength of our days!
Simply command us.We are your loyal subjects.
Brilliance majestic entrances our eyes. We bow.
Your fire burns within us. Oh we need your brilliance!
Warrior strength-pure, coalesce within us.
To live in courage, fear conquered? Oh opportunity!
Slowly she enters in procession wearing deep multi-colored robes.
Every minute passing, splendor emits beauty's fragrance.
Purest amber, royal purple, orange passion: Oh Majesty!
She has visited us but even now  she is fading.
"Too soon, the time; must you leave us?
Fading, fading......one last dance.
She welcomes the prince of winter into her arms
 together they continue in dance.
Rush of tempest, the royal ones rise, twirling the whirlwind
We gaze after them in joy.
For the life we possess exists within dormancy's rest.
Short our lives so precious.
Within season's truth.

Very nice. I've I've mentioned before I'm a sucker for anything Autumnal.
I really like the fact that you're not restricted by the must for rhyme scheme. Just let it flow naturally, Kathy.
It seems to be working very well that way.

I suppose in a way, autumn is the most important season. The storing season. The year has played out, and all the tools have to be stored away. But for some reason, you also seem to reflect through autumn. You see the actual changes before your eyes. This really can be so powerful.

Kathy,
I enjoyed this poem very much. Vibrant colors splashed across the page. Your writing was a whirlwind of activity. Your images and the action of your words were in balance taking the reader on a majestic tour of this season of change and wonder.
I clearly visioned all that you described. Excellent word choice. This is now one of my favorite poems.
Peace,
Richie b.

Beautiful just doesn't say it for this poesy. It's breathtaking and educational for a poet and poetess. The imagery limned is worth remembering years after the read. It felt like I was there and the feeling of being there was so strong! I liked the title too. Everything was just perfect and a pleasure to read, Kathy. Tyfs!

A dormant life leave us feeling empty. Better to had lived and learn sadness. Thank you Kathy for sharing the excellent poetry.

This was a vivid and beautiful piece to read. Fall is my favorite time of season. The harvest, the thanksgiving, the glorious climax of color. I like all the seasons but fall is simply amazing. Lovely art here my dear poet :)
