Evening Song

Evening Song

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

Written in early Summer

"
The big frogs have the corner thicket to the pond.
Spread-shimmering textured surface.

Late afternoon saunters into early evening.
High winds call through Alder's marsh.
Songs of rustling leaves silver grey withal.

Low bowl water shed flagged in grasses sweet.
Tall alder, Maple, Aspen give themselves to wind's cooling lilt.

Bull frogs unison solo repeat.
These ones with their natures' chorus sing unique refrain.
"Adieu sweet warm light", shadows falling- onward velvet night.

In anticipation I await, evening calls my name.
Sweet rosy curtain descends sky ceiling, in pure silken wash.
Dusk to sunset join as one.

Evening season slowly whispers in breezes light;
"Cherish me within your heart's thrum-"
"I am your God-given inheritance."

Evening season slowly whispers in breezes light;
"Cherish me within your heart's thrum-"
"I am your God-given inheritance."

These beautiful lines perhaps encapsulate the entire code to unspoiled spiritual joy and happiness. If only we just carried these God given joys, these blessings in our hearts' thrum always, life would be heaven on earth. Thank you Kathy for sharing the magic unfolding around us...

You just took me there. I felt every word of it. I like how you enforce it's importance in our lives at the end. Beautiful, lovely, peaceful imagery. A delightful write.

I don't know about the bull frogs in your neck of the woods, but around here they're quite noisy. They do not lull me to sleep at night. I really do need to appreciate these little critters more, but they're so darn ugly. I do love my little pond though, and all of other stuff around it.
But honestly, this is a wonderfully worded poem that highlights our outdoor world marvelously. You're a great writer Ma'am.

The imagery, the specific calls to species, draw such an eloquent picturesque scene. It is pastoral and full of grace.

It is our inheritance to be mindfully and graciously tended to with our love and our hands. Lovely read. Lovely.

Beautiful imagery here. It took me out of my landscaped suburban surroundings into slightly wild summer woods (in general, we don't have woods around here). And this poem is an eloquent testament to the beauty of nature and how we should cherish and preserve it.

Hi Kathy.

I have just read several of your poems, 'evening song,' crimson sky,' and 'autumn colours.'

Your love and understanding of the glory and permanence of nature comes through so very strongly in your writing, and I so very much enjoyed my first, certainly not last, visit to your work.

You write beautifully.

Beccy.

What a warm, wondrous world that has awakened in your words. This is a beautiful glimpse of the countless blessings that fill the spaces around us, if we will but look and listen. Wondrous joy is there to be found. Endless joy.

Nature has a language all its own, which you've spoken of so eloquently here, Kathy. But it was your closing verse that orchestrated this to loftier heights!

If this were a book, I'd be twisted in the hollowness of an over-sized chair, wishing for it to never end!
