Evening SongA Poem by Kathy Van KurinWritten in early SummerThe big frogs have the corner thicket to the pond. Spread-shimmering textured surface. Late afternoon saunters into early evening. High winds call through Alder's marsh. Songs of rustling leaves silver grey withal. Low bowl water shed flagged in grasses sweet. Tall alder, Maple, Aspen give themselves to wind's cooling lilt. Bull frogs unison solo repeat. These ones with their natures' chorus sing unique refrain. "Adieu sweet warm light", shadows falling- onward velvet night. In anticipation I await, evening calls my name. Sweet rosy curtain descends sky ceiling, in pure silken wash. Dusk to sunset join as one. Evening season slowly whispers in breezes light; "Cherish me within your heart's thrum-" "I am your God-given inheritance." Kathy Van Kurin Oct. 2016
