Sky Horses

Sky Horses

A Poem by Kathy Van Kurin
"

This was the first real poem I composed and at the time just tickled with. It has been formatted a little differently from its original version. Got the idea from my daughter's welded horses.

"

Sky horses

Like a herd of wild horses released to the heavens,

each one running wild and free.

This heavenly Habitation of marble candy sky

is really dreams swirled blue and cream

Hope is the glowing ember radiating and imparting

 its strength

where only a waste place may have existed.

And in this place of thoughts, ideas, grief and pain

hope’s quiet voice begins singing its precious refrain

.Every good gift in every precious soul

is set in diamond facet array.

White, perfect, just and pure

 is this stone cast

from our Creator’s great just hand;.

For even pain lends itself within the song given.

Holy Lord, please hold my hand
when the colors run down
and no longer are what they should be.

Catch sky horses in twinkling stars of the night
as my falling tears that hold your sweet light.

Make a way in the blackness when my feet lose their way
 and stumble on shattered dreams;
the desires and hopes that have died.

Help me learn to stand quiet
even in pain awaiting sky horses.

They will return on the next silver ridge.
For God is the giver of hope denied

that will come riding the next rainbow
 into Marble Candy Sky.

Oh, the care that this was written with was truly touching. Many pieces are written to show off, this one felt like a gift you were giving away. I was particularly thrilled with the idea of tears being a prism for "sweet light"- the idea that the products of our greatest emotions serve some beautiful purpose in the tangible world... in a semi-synesthetic sense, that line tasted like peaches. Thank you for submitting this to the " The Piece You're Proudest Of" Contest!

Best,
AM

Your so welcome.
I read this poem as gentle, loving, and full of faith. Your writing is always like this and bever fails to remind me that the world and the people and things in it are essentially good.

I love your work dear Kathy and you are welcome.
I treasure your writes and their subject matter. Horses are majestic and elegant and some fetch big money. We can learn a lot from them and how they roam free and wild with nobility. The title is gorgeous and so do the poem.

What a brilliant display of intelligent and spiritual thoughts. The death of loved ones is so bittersweet. No longer having them here physically is full of sorrow, but knowing they are in the greatest place beyond this world.

Since our equus friends are my area of expertise, i was drawn to the title of this poem, Kathy.

Expecting an ode of sorts to the majesty of these noble beasts, i instead found a poem in a soothing psalm like form; marvelling at the gifts of creation and the spirit of life that exists in our precious domain.

Life is abundant with both blessings and disappointments and we must endure both with an open heart; rejoicing in the good fortune and finding courage and hope in the bad moments. For just like these sky horses, our hopes and dreams and next moments of happiness can be just on the horizon, thundering their way across the pillowy plain and into our souls.

Another fine write, Kathy. Written from a pen bursting with exuberance and joy for life. And congrats for writing a piece with a loving devotion to the horse, for he is majesty personified. Well Done.
