Fairy Fields

Fairy Fields

A Poem by Vanessa Whiteley

among patchwork frosted fields

horses and scattered sheep

crop on brittle grass

crinkled leaves hang from trees

thorns of yellow gorse

are sharp as elfin arrows

smoky hills form an aerial perspective

while clouds carry rumours of snow

the fairies all have coughs

and transformed princes

have crept on chilblained feet

to hide themselves till spring

What a lovely poem to come to on a late night/early morning...I feel blessed to have read this especially after all that's been going on around here with the bad feelings and those who think its their right to tell others what to feel and put them down.

These are perfect lines for me right now since we're in the middle of another blizzard -

"Smoky hills form an aerial perspective
while clouds carry rumours of snow
The fairies all have coughs "

A truly gorgeous write from you :)

This was so beautiful with your short, not often used words "thorns of yellow gorse", all the borrowed light enclothed and this serves to both the nature and man, this sight and the transformed price soon enough will emerge, when spring arrives. Oh sweet, really loved.

the "it' that you possess is what others pretend to or want...i wonder if it came easy...

This poem begins at high altitude then zooms in to focus on the fairies and princes. I loved the midsummernightsdream feeling of this fine little poem.

A very good writer at work here.

Ok...that lame frogie was funny enough, and then the poem. Quite creative, fairies choking on their breath... :))) A nostalgic aura....Cheers.
