I Am/I Was

I Am/I Was

A Poem by ApocalypticChick

I am the girl
With her heads in the clouds
I am the one
Dreaming of a good life
I am the outspoken
Fighter that will stand
Out amongst everyone else
I am not afraid
Because different is okay
Weird is okay
F****d up is normal
In today's world
What is normal?
I am the girl that is different
I am the voices
The ones to speak up
Give me a good reason
And I will fight for you
I am not a lawyer
I am simply a girl
Like any other girl
I am the dreamer
Wishing to find love
Hoping to get married someday
But today I am young
I will use my youth
To my benefit
I will speak out
I will stand up
I am a fighter
I am a rebel
I am me
•••
I was a child
I was naive
I was afraid
Of being called out
Harsh names being thrown at me
To the point of tears
I was picked on
Like the countless others
That also struggled
I was a shy small girl
I had my little crushes
I had my heartbreaks
Weak in the knees
Heart fluttering so much
I was quiet
Chasing after the boys
With my friends in the schoolyard
I am not proud of who I was
I am strong
I am independent
I WAS weak
I WAS quiet
I am not
I AM a rebel
I AM who I am
