Colorblind

Colorblind

A Poem by Mortimer Brewster

I drive to survive

Seeing the prize in my eyes

I fight to stay in flight

To stay outta jail because I can’t make bail

I use my vision to complete my mission

To use my theory on what I need to be

Here I stay stalking my prey

Ready to strike but I’m called a Kike

Because of my skin I’m considered a sin

But I will not laydown I will wear my crown

I will flip the world upside down to show there is nothing wrong with brown

With support from my kin I am ready to win

I will show I can be like the powerful man behind the mike

I will make everyone see gray so no one can ever say

Your not the same color as me and that makes me better than you, you see

That’s my decision to make race not a fact or opinion

I don’t want to fail to make racism set sail

To stay tight with the thought of the right

To see the sun rise and to make better lives

And continue to strive to stay alive
