are we really free?

are we really free?

A Poem by khalid
"

just an opinion of freedom

"

My friend and I, went down the street, to walk

And during our walk, we had some talk

He told me how much people became, free

I asked him, free? Really? Are we?

What is your proof? Tell me?

Look at that needy over there, begging a millionaire

And the millionaire, proudly opening his car door

Then throws a coin to the needy on the floor

If we are really free, would that needy choose to be

As he?

If we are really free, no sad people would there be

You can't recognize to whom you are a slave?

We are slaves for god, for fate

We are slaves for divine force

We are slaves for traditions and customs

we are slaves for our feelings and needs

We are slaves for nature and its disasters

And to that endless number of masters,

We are slaves!

Were you even free to pick your name?

Could you choose where or when to get born?

Could you choose your race and color?

Could you choose your father or your mother?

Could we even choose to be here right now?

If you are really free, would you have chosen to be,

Now with me?

Hmmm...you brought up very interesting topics here. Things that I would have to disagree on. lol. I don't see ourselves as slaves to earth. Though you raise up questions that could counter what i could defend. lol... but.. hmm.. I think freedom in my opinion is about choices.. It is true that not many people have freedom depending where they are in the world. But slowly, things are changing. And hmm..being able to choose where we are born would be pretty sweet but yes sadly we do not have that choice. Nor as our race, or family. But I think that's different. To choose things like those... it would be more of a utopia world? I would think. Hmm i don't know about being slaves to fate or Gods/Goddess... but they are there for belief. One can choose not to believe in them nor worship them. But society is tricky... if there are no rules to govern, there will be more chaos in the world.. i would believe. Not everyone would simply agree with someone else. How thought-proking this poem is! Great write! You made me think a lot.... fascinating.. Love this!!! =D
Hmmm... I like how you expressed frustration through your questions as it feels as if we are just pawns in a chess game..
Brilliant write! ^-^

Deep thoughts you bring to light here... but the last line... gives it a surprising twist...
there is no true freedom..in anyone's world.. ancient or modern...

Excellent question...are we totally free. I stand with you in the belief that we are never totally free. But in amazing writing like this, we can be free. We can fly and we can sour. We can choose who we are and what we want to be. Your beautiful writing expresses the freedom we will never truly have. Keep up the wonderful work

There is no absolute freedom, even though some choose to think so, or dream of so..The constraints are many on every aspect I can think of or can imagine.

Difficult question: Are we free? Well, in a way I think we can choose to be or not free… Freedom is a kind of “state of mind”! We have to accept “natural rules”, there is no way to escape from them: we are born, we eat, we grow, we procreate and we die to start a new circle of “life”, as we become mineral, water, air, some kind of energy that will, in some strange way, help life to go on and on… As for me, I try not to be “enslaved” by things I don’t agree and don’t like – I suppose that is the best I can do for myself! Well, I’m not religious, so at least I was “born without sins” and will die that way! I just see myself, first of all, as a Universal being that, by “accident” was born in the Milky Way, in a Solar system, in a Planet called Earth, in some microscopic cosmos called Africa, in a country called Mozambique, in a city called Maputo… see?! It all becomes so small and so without importance compared with being a Universal being!!!! What the matter if I’m woman or if I’m green?!! What does it matter if I’m rich, powerful or a simple person? Nothing real matters!!! Just the conscience of yourself as someone that in some way can make this planet a better place for all the future children of the world!
Your poem is lovely!

Freedoms are limited, true. What we have absolute freedom over is our reaction to the things that happen.

Yes is this your choice. Some believe you choose your life the lessons you want to learn in the school of the world. I am not so sure? Freedom nice in theory but is anyone truly free?

wow this is a lot to take in. a very sensitive topic you have successfully put in verse.we all have free will to make our freedom. i agree that we have become slaves as well. some choices we don't have a part in , as our choices seem to be pre-ordained. but then again love is the bond that will get you this together.

i agree with your logic. No freedom anywhere in this world. Whatever we do. Someone will be controlling us in some way. Thank you for the outstanding poem.

We are free, matter of perspective. Only a slave to ego and sometimes each other, but not God. Excellent write and read. Namaste.

Very deep poem of mind and philosophy of freedom..Yes, actually we never can be free as we are born...Only thing we can make free is our choices in life...If we were angels, we could be more free, but any creature on earth is not free, as he is already inside the prison of body; that why we always suffer, and that why the soul is most important, because make our "prison" more easy to stand...Sadness id everywhere on earth, because the life is test and we are not here to be "free". but to stand this test...
