my own

my own

A Poem by Khatoon Hazara

Don't shake me out,
I'm just starting out,
5 feet, from the ground,
Why does it hurt,
When I think of you?
How can I, fill up the hole?
Cement and drawstrings, Pupettry, I've tried them all,
I want to be alone, breathe in my home,
Don't close in on me, now,
I'm harder to figure out,
Lest I turn and fall into the sky, reverse the warning signs,
Powdered sugar and raindrops full of glitter,
Pave the way to animosity,
I am not animal, not animal, not animal,
I am not cannibal, not cannibal, not cannibal
I am on my own, just me alone, empty home,

I am not careful, not careful, not careful,
Do you like the wrecking balls, the wrecking balls, the wrecking balls,
Consider me to drop,
Clouds, breaking my fall,
Where are my wings,
I'm an angel, I swear,
Where are my wings,
My wings,
I've lost my halo,
Dancing on my own,
I think I've gotten lost,
With the voices in my head,
They tell me to wander off,
To find my identity,
Without that, who is me,
I am not child, not machine,
I can't do everything,

Tell me who to be,
I'll follow the lead-er,
Maybe it'll all be clear-er,
There's magic in the air,
Magic everywhere,
Magic in the snow,
Magic in your heart,
Believe, they say,
Believe,
But I am not okay,
I believe in the wrongs things,
But it's my own,
To hold, and to control
