The Stronger Sex!

The Stronger Sex!

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A look at some of the most toughened women in history, completely without regard for others and let nothing stop them from completing their purpose, some call them evil, others inspirational!

"

A Queen to rule both nations part,

Leon and Castile we hunt and kneel,

A Catholic mind was her only will,

To cast a shadow no scars to heal.

The raised moniker Bloody Mary,

Sought faith in Scotland's arms,

Returned to claim a crowned seat,

Never stopping for blood farms.

Bathory always clinging to hunger,

Poor maids slain for now they fall,

The blood that made her younger,

Your hear a voice behind the wall.

Dear Joan they burned for fashion,

A weapon sealed by men's cloth,

Handing kingdoms back as toys,

A King to sip on champagne froth.

I guess it depends which side of the fence you sat on, how you regarded these women. Without doubt they led from the front, were totally focused in achieving their aims and fearless. I enjoyed the rhyme here. I have always admired classical poetry. My choice has to be the Queen of the Iceni. She did it for me.

Ah, first of all, you have a commendable taste when it comes to women! :))
The number of rhyming poems has decreased so much, that it is rare to find such good rhymes. My favourite stanza would be the last one. Love the rhythm and the neat structure. A job well done! :))

There is a formidable nature to the female of our species...
Strength is infinite within the human spirit, both female and male. It is no wonder we should see the depth of the human experience within a feminine soul as well a as masculine one. Naturally, a person's sexual physiology does not determine their strength of character.
I enjoyed the history lesson as well.

Ha ha indeed
my only "complaint" is that this ended before I was ready for it to do so. Bathory doesn't get much airtime but is a fascinating girl. A great "taste" Thomas.

You are welcome!
I love this! I did my BA capstone (in history) on women's agency in colonial America so these subjects are super close to my heart! Fantastic writing-- and you picked great women to honor here!

Seemed like you`ve plotted a stage-play around the page in disguise of such a poem. Sounds interesting!
