Society's W***e.

Society's W***e.

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

For anyone that has been a victim of rape, I am your brother and I will no longer whimper in the corner, be strong my darlings and live!

"
Blisters dance across ones skin in delight,
Heavy limbs lay flat on cold concrete,
Open wounds seep pus and fear in equal measure,
Scratch's bind broken nails in mere defeat.

Failed meetings never cease to amaze the victim,
Sex a horrid tool of power and dominance with men,
Tremble and excite those locked doors in your mind,
Pleasant does not seem to sooth or excite the pen.

No strengths can help you or divide the thoughts,
Taken innocence is not the issue, taken time is,
They win in that moment they certainly do,
Murder however is revenge and sweet in hands that wiz.

Fallen pillars of the community exposed to all,
Make no mistake they beat and cut us to out core,
As they lay sunken in coffins lined with led,
Tell yourself this, you're no longer society's w***e.

powerful lines ..no doubt ..your strong feelings come across loud and clear ... your comment about rape and your poem together throw me a little ..seems your poem is more metaphor on certain ills of society .. your last two verses seem particularly expressive of your angst ...second line second verse .. i think i would end it after ".....dominance ..." when you add "men" in there it takes away from the horror of rapists whether they are literal or those in power that rape in a more subtle way ... i love this line:
"Scratch's bind broken nails in mere defeat." ..one fights and is helpless with the only weapons at hand ..fingernails .. becoming a testimony to the helplessness ... i think that is such a fine line ..and i like the word play using ol' Scratch very appropriately ..

I've read a few of your poems. They are great. This one I could relate to personally and enjoyed the read. I love the dark tone to this poem. It certainly tells a story. Bravo

Thank you.
Insightfully poignant, you have given a voice to those who have suffered a great deal in silence and in shame for being a victim. Well done Thomas!

Amen to that. We have a beastliness in us which needs to be tamed somehow. Exposing it for what it is is a good way to tackle it. Respect!

Thank you RJ.
Rape.power..control..domination...powerful write indeed and yet again, one all too relatable! Sadly it is a part of some sick individuals we shall never be able to cure, especially while women have to prove they were raped rather than the rapist proving he didnt..its the women on trial in reality and all too often a not guilty found. This piece is amazing nokt just in how you have so c!everly written it but the topic is one that needs more highlighting in generl. It is still very much a mans world and leans towards them rather than straight equality. Brilliant job!!!

Indeed, thank you.
Powerful write, straight to the point on the dirty dark side of life. People still seem to mix up rape with sex.
Just power to the lower creed of men.

Indeed thank you.
A bold proclamation of truth on this subject who are victimized by the perpetrators then misjudged by the society at large. A double whammy indeed. Thank you for sharing the hurt and the awareness. Excellent, sir...

Agreed thank you
Being part of a disarmed, unarmed, unrepresented, and disenfranchised populace LEADS directly to intimidation and discrimination. A government that hasn't the societal values of its country at its center heightens abuse and disregard of basic human rights. I listened to your thoughts and felt the inherent power, humanity, and decency. I'll keep you in my thoughts. Take care Thomas...
