The Norm.

The Norm.

A Poem by Thomas Fitzgerald
"

A minute look at victims that fell to the knife of homophobia and uneducated minds, be aware of those that yield right on their side!

"

Surrey Hills holds the crown where a queen fell,

A gentle stroll with an act of love now breaking point,

For those that wished to curse those now sweet,

Gee landed with skull dust his prize and broken joint.

A world cup brings all to the fore and binds them,

His cousin looked on with intention hiding hate,

Torture and murder is the order of the day,

His wish granted Alexandre on that sorry date.

Don’t be afraid was born in an act of silence,

Blades rushed to sever the right in movement time,

Mr. Jones no crimes to speak of or relate,

How still the body paraplegic by vicious crime.

Chenu who knew that years later Hitler could reach you,

In those that shave hair in an act of no understanding,

Holding you under water to drain the last bright light,

For what pleasure where these demons regarding?

Self a most promising designer of sets amongst all,

Bleeding out on a floor with wounds of fourteen,

Ah the Irish guard how they turn and turn the blind eye,

No justice, no proof, just gossip in morrows canteen.

Williamson how your bravery betrayed inner cunning,

HE comes crawling on the back of stupidity and reason,

A machete no less tasted blood on the seventy,

A life sentence more severe if it were mere treason.

Through open the minds of those who vomit hatred,

Are we to live forever with our guilt in feline form,

Power knows no bounds when televisions tell us to,

Come one come all to the slaughter ever the norm.

You are welcome my friend.
i feel my lack of knowledge in reading your poem ..i am simply not familiar with the stories and people you refer to ..that being said
i feel the anguish and sorrow in your lines ..the horror of murder and the stupidity of it ... not sure what darkness inspires it nor what light will stop it ..only that there is a stark difference between the two and we choose ..daily ..one over the other .. you poem seems personal as well ... i hope you are doing well :(

Thank you.
Life has a way of rebalancing things askew. Even in the darkest of times, the bodies fertilize the future. Does it make it any less traumatic or tragic? No, but without the darkness, the light cannot be truly appreciated. Wonderful piece.
