By a Friend

By a Friend

A Poem by Kelly M.

My dear one,
you will be loved in the name of truth
and find your heart betrayed
Do not allow this to give you pain
for Christ Himself endured
mockery
scorn
betrayal
Yet He remained

Sold for thirty pieces of silver
under the mask of a kiss
a friend of His,
a friend,
a friend,
a friend

Yes, my dear one
you will be loved in the name of truth
and find your heart betrayed
but lift your head and cling to this
He knows the bitter pain
Sold as a slave, replaced and made
An embarrassment to the world

How easier the pain would have been
If an enemy had kissed his life
to death
But alas indeed
a friend of His
a friend well loved
a friend,
a friend,
a friend

So when you wish to shake your fist
Be angry for the pain
Remember that He felt it too
Just as you are now

He felt the pain of searing loss,
of a man He'd called His own,
for the one who sent Him to His Cross
was no stranger, but well-known

This is why we sing
No truer love than this
For we will be hurt in the name of love
And find our hearts betrayed
Not by strangers, no indeed
By a friend,
a friend,
a friend

Author's Note

Kelly M.
If we were always loved perfectly on this earth, would we ever long to know Christs' for us? Would it ever be as precious to us? In Christ's mysterious mercy, He allows us to feel unloved and betrayed by imperfect people sometimes so that the love He has for us is overwhelmingly dear and precious and deeply, deeply desired.

I know in many ways this is not real poetry; I wrote it late at night. I hope it touches you regardless!
