What can man say?

What can man say?

Is it true Lord? Can the country You gave us...
the country where we roam free
erase Your Word from every base?
Sandblast every wall Your Word has effaced?
There is the Liberty Bell that displays Your Word
and the Statue of Liberty.
Countless cornerstones cover the land
proclaiming Your Word for all to see.
They'll scrape and dig, pound and rub
every Word, book, chapter and verse
until there's nothing left but a clean, blank slate
that will only be filled by man's words.
What would man say about love
that the Bible hasn't already said?
What about Friendship can man add?
Is there a sacrifice greater than death?
Can man come up with better ideas
to make a family whole,
than God's instructions and intentions
which never fail if they are followed?
And what, of all the Proverbs,
can man improve upon?
Can man comfort better that Psalms
when grief and sadness abound?
What can man say that towers Your Word?
How can man improve on perfection?
Does he really believe he knows more than You?
Take your Word from this world?
Don't let them!
How did this happen? It's gone too far!
What are we witnessing?
There's a cry slowly rising from Your People, Lord,
"Only Your Word can set us free".
Without Your Word, without Your Church,
we walk into captivity
at the mercy of God-less, Hell-bent men
who think freedom means being God-free.
