But Why Mommy?...

But Why Mommy?...

A Poem by Krista Gallant

But why Mommy...?

For the millionth time asked

Trying to find out all the facts

But why Mommy...

Is the sun yellow, the sky blue?

Do lions live in a zoo?

Does a dog bark?

Am I afraid of the dark?

But why Mommy...

Are my classes so hard?

Can’t I lose against you at cards?

Girls giggle as I walk by?

Don’t they know I’m just a guy?

But why Mommy...

Am I so nervous to see my girl?

Do I get butterflies when I see her curls?

Do I have to wait to be her man?

I can’t wait to take her hand.

But why Mommy...

Does my baby always cry?

Now she’s grown, she’s so shy?

Do they grow up so darn fast?

Can’t I wish her youth last?

But why Mommy...

Does it have to rain?

Do we have to feel pain?

Did you have to go?

Don’t you know I’ll miss you so?

This is why Mommy...

You’re my hero and this is true.

I absolutely adore and love you!
