QUEEN OF BEAUTY
(A Gift Beyond Measure)
When the terse reality of life
Crashes upon my egalitarian existence
She is there waiting for me
Her soft summer silkiness
Imbrues itself upon my troubled brow
Lifting me beyond the gray sky
As we sit under a shaded tree
The sheer bliss of friendship
Washes over me like sweet tonic
Baptizing me in a wave of sweet memories
The coy syllables of our words
Join together to form a sensible chain
A bond forged beyond proper sensibilities
What wonderful flights of laughter
Can compare to the love she inspires
Not romantic in nature or aspect
But of respect and mutual consideration
Unwrapping the silken bow
And bright wrappings of paper
She unveils my latest gift to her
With a smile that would melt
The most glacial of heart (strings)
She thanks me with a simple kiss
Laid generously upon my cheek
I have given her lovingly
The same gift she has given
A thousand times and more
The gift that is often unappreciated
Or even reciprocated until
It is far too late and nonexistent
She hold it close as a miser
And keeps it within her heart
The safest of treasure troves
The gift that I have given
Is friendship and love
Unyielding, incomparable
And simply…unconditional
