"Grand Finale" (Goodbye My Love)

A Poem by Kenny L. Mitchell

"Grand Finale" (Goodbye My Love)

Upon a dark moonless night

You left a paper thin farewell

Filling me with melancholy sorrow

And a tear stained pillow case

What was once golden

Now lies broken and tarnished

Fractured into a million pieces

Without a final kiss

Or a profound farewell

You flew away to northern skies

Leaving me to sweep away

The tragedy of divine errors

And cast them into a refuse bin

Why must I be the guardian

Of these discarded memories

The silent and mourning avatar

To this mad maze of desolution

The wisest amongst us

Say to release the thing

We love beyond earthly measure

And if it returns it's our (to keep)

But what cruel intentions

Our sinister machinations

Could seperate me from

The one thing I truly love

Goodbye my dear heart

Spread our immaculate wings

Fly to the gates of remote heaven

Sometimes upon occasion

I hope to glance your smile

Against my pale southern sky
