Crossroads

Decisions.

"

I stand beneath an old, dusty street light. It forms a halo of pale, rusty orange around me. Beyond that, there lies only darkness. Three distinct paths wind away into the darkness. The orange glow illuminates only a few feet before the paths descend into utter blackness. I know that once I start down a path, I will never find my way back to this place. It exists only now, to disappear as soon as the decision is made. I look up. The moon is shining brightly, but does nothing to penetrate the blackness surrounding the clearing. Its pale light reflects off my skin, becoming a sickly blue. Perhaps this is the color of my soul, so filled with sickness and indecision. I refocus on the streets before me. One path is familiar; it is not an easy path, but a known one. Another is wild, dangerous. The last is completely unknown, an absolute mystery. I do not know where each will lead. I know only that I cannot stay here. This place is only a crossroad. A single moment in which futures are decided. I do not know which path I will set out upon. In this moment, I simply exist.
