Plight of a Fat Cat

Plight of a Fat Cat

A Poem by kayla

Went to my food bowl this morning

only to see the cat food I despise:

it's the food the vet recommended

that my owners went out to buy.

I can almost taste it from here,

the vegetables and lack of meat-

but I know they won't refill the bowl

until I finally suck it up and eat.

I snoop around the carpet,

looking for leftovers of their meals,

but all I get is my own furballs

and healthy vitamin pills.

As I strut across the house I wonder

how could they treat me this way?

Don't they understand that fattening food

helps me through my hard days?

My owners are never at home,

it's just me by myself.

So I turned to my Meow Mix

just like anybody else.

But then I gained some weight

and they took me to the vet.

All of a sudden they wanted to care,

wanted to keep me as a healthy pet.

So now I'm stuck here with healthy catfood

that doesn't taste good at all.

So I'll just sniff the floor for leftovers

until I'm finally again small.

That was a great piece, I admire people writing from someone else's point of view, that's def a difficult thing to do ! I think you've done it superbly, it looks like a monologue, a natural flow of thoughts. Great job !

t relates to human and animal alike. Also cleverly keeps you engaged with its quirky sense of humor. I absolutely adore this poem.

A very entertaining persona poem. I have a pretty fat cat as well. It's amazing to watch him jump up onto counter.

Humorous poem that got me to chuckle every now and then. Emotions seem to range from humorous (or at least to me) to resentment to seriousness. I'm not quite sure if I phrased that correctly. Anyhoo, I enjoyed this poem very much.
