To The Ex (In Verse)

To The Ex (In Verse)

A Poem by J. James Reider

I enjoy being wrapped up in you.

Nothing that I do for you ever feels like a chore.

You have shown me emotions I never knew

existed inside this shattered broken down bore.

How I remember our first date...

Sitting across from you, holding your hands...

Wondering if it was destiny or fate...

Or if the meeting was only by chance.

The way the light twinkled in your eye,

the sound of your laughter caressed my ear,

I felt sure that there was a God in the sky,

but the fact that he picked me for you felt queer.

After all, you were a fine upstanding lady,

and I seemed to be a low life crumb of a man.

I never saw what you saw in me but maybe

it reaches further than my mind can span.

I remember how excited you were to see me...

I remember looking forward to sharing a house

with you in which you would set me free

of chains which made this man a fragile little mouse.

Through it all you were my anchor.

You have always been the one who owned my love.

You were the one who controlled my anger,

and helped me rise from the ashes beyond and above.

We were married...

We are seperated...

Despite our differences...

I will love you forever...

You ask why?

Because I remember our first date...

Because you are the mother of my children...

Because I said that I would love you forever and I do...

And because you are the only one who has ever known me...

Every marriage has some rough seas....

and sometimes those seas capsize the vessel....

Despite that disaster there will always be the breeze....

To capture, to carry and convey the dreams across the sea, over the tressel,

to be reborn in a brand new blushing brides eyes....

Good intentions can save some of the worst.

Though it is these dreams that decide if your love lives or dies.

After all this time we no longer have a new thirst.

My love for you is still alive...

And honey, I will tell you it sure does thrive.

It will never go away.

It is in my life each and every waking day.

That was a charming and heartwarming poem. I identified with it on the level of my own experience. And although I might not share all of the sentiments, I understand them. I too try to remember the good times. The first date, the first kiss, my son being born.
And why? Because they did happen, and even though things don't always work out, remembering what was good can sometimes get you through the dark times.
Excellent poem James!
