Can We?

A Poem by PaperHearts
"
For Anya. Although you broke your promise, I will never break mine. I will NEVER forget you.
"

Can we run through
a patch of
Wild Flowers
screaming
like we used to?

Can we write whimsical words
of Insanity
on our white Chuck Taylors
like we used to?

Can we dance in Soft Rain
wearing just our bikinis
in the middle of Winter
like we used to?

Can we sit on your bed
at 2am in the morning
eating cookie dough
like we used to?

Can we climb the plum tree
in your backyard
and sit there for a while, eating ice cream from the tub
like we used to?

Can we lie on the beach
at the back of my house
and play our guitars in Unison
like we used to?

Can we hop in the car
and drive for hours and hours
going Nowhere
like we used to?

Can we?
Please!?
No wait.
Don't answer that.

Because I already know what you're going to say.
And I don't want to hear it.
I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT.

They say that you knew what was coming.
But if you knew, then why didn't you tell me?
WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL ME?

You promised me you'd pull through.
YOU PROMISED.
I believed you you know.
I thought that you were stronger than that.
I really did.

So can we?
I can just imagine you mouthing the words.
No.
No we can't.
