Rhythms

A Poem by KAyD

Music blasted.
Limbs flailed.
Colors flashed in the disconcerting strobe lights.
It didn’t matter who they were,
Or where they came from.
All that mattered was that they were here,
Dancing to the hypnotic beats,
Losing themselves to the crowds.
Faces flashed, only half seen,
And bodies swayed in time to the rhythm.
Eyes glinted,
Lazily,
Menacingly,
Luring.
Drinks were passed,
Alcohol consumed quickly.
Drugs pressed into palms of paying victims.
All succeeding in making the surroundings hazy,
Unknown shapes and colorful blurs.
Exhausted beings,
Tried to escape,
To leave this night behind,
Only to be trapped by a crowd.
Panic quickly spreads,
And the first screams slip into the air.
Only to be hushed by the
Loud,
Hypnotic,
Menacingly,
Lazy,
Rhythms.
