Masks of Obscurity

Masks of Obscurity

A Poem by Kringefest
"

Do we have Free Will?

"
I feel invisible,
Hidden behind a wall.
People ignore me;
They never cared at all.

They glance, then they walk away
To carry on with their sad lives.
But something else catches my eye:
Their wrists are shackled with gyves.

So, now I see...
These people feast on false security,
Thinking I haven't seen their
Masks of obscurity.

We live merely thinking we're free,
Yet we're bound by this cold earth.
We roam carelessly in delusion,
Lost since our birth.

And so ever since we saw the first light,
Ever since we escaped the womb,
We've spent a life of pure illusion
All decaying in the same tomb.

so many are so busy with themselves they've nothing left over for anyone else... and the spiral gets smaller and smaller... tighter and tighter.

You're absolutely right, mate. It's the cruel truth.
A hit for me. Very real, raw and edgy.

Anytime I can give a sensible review is a good day :)
Evocative and powerful imagery. Well crafted. I love the lines, "Masks of obscurity" and "We've spent a life of pure illusion; All decaying in the same tomb."

You're welcome.
I deeply enjoyed this poem. You visualised the existential absurdity in an intense way. Magnificent writing style. Well done. :)

About
Why do we credit fantasy when the realism here gives us the beauty and interest we could ever wish to see? Ergo, fantasy is not my top genre. I like realistic fiction, however, but it may go overboard.. more..
