wandering beneath the stars

wandering beneath the stars

A Poem by KristenMaye

when everyone else has gone to sleep,
so late it has become early morning,
we talk
argue about philosophy, religion, love.
our words spin in circles,
dancing around each flaw in logic,
never really standing for anything
because we hold more questions than answers
and its in the search we find our joy.
sometimes on those nights
when all the world is sleeping,
I find myself slipping into that old trap
and my heart seems to whisper "kiss me you fool"
but it never makes it to my lips.
I snatch it back before it flies
and with four words change everything.
too much separates us.
years, yes, but more: experience.
I am young
foolish and headstrong
and have much growing left to do.
I have a path that I must follow to its end
before I could be worthy of your love,
though it may lead me far away
and perhaps into another's arms...
sometimes I let myself imagine
what could happen if we walked the same way
while all the world was sleeping.
