DrumbeatA Poem by Nautili
It was 2 AM in the morning,
during a torrential downpour.
You held in your hand a black umbrella,
as you opened the door of my car.
You leaned over and kissed me.
your warm lips melting mine,
the smell of you in my nostrils,
the taste of you on my tongue.
I could hear the rain
thundering in my ears,
a drumbeat accompanying our love-song.
It must have been the sensory overload,
for I remember a sudden burst of electricity
that ran through my entire being,
like a thunderbolt of lightning.
It shocked me. A pleasant surprise.
Today you are just a memory's skeleton,
the beat of your heart silenced forever.
the lips long cold and stiff,
lost to love,
lost to time,
lost to life.
but never, my love, never
completely lost to me.
