The Spotlight

The Spotlight

A Poem by Jack Cassidy
"

Ambition will have its heartaches...

"
My eyes are filled with exhaustion.
I reach over and spill honey across the dining room table.

Time is never going to stand at ease.
Instead, it will pass me by and toss empty soda cans upside my skull.

Where was yesterday's craze?
It could have kissed me goodbye.

I feel like I've been orphaned by life,
and my wife is in the bedroom asleep.

Why do I have to choose?
I'm reaching for the moment,
but it won't get any closer.

Maybe I'll sit here for a while and bleed.

I like this a lot, especially the strong image in the first lines, a strong poem that convinces with honesty...
