I AM NOT WISER THAN YOU

A poem about the simple wish to leave a mark on the world through what we create while we're here - but also the feeling of how can I possibly contribute to a world that already contains so much?

I am no more real than you
my seas are no deeper

I am not wiser
than you
nor kinder

I am not inherently evil
neither of us are;

but
I am no more a hero
than you, either

my shores are endless,
my tides are high
but so are yours

and though the oaks of my being feel ancient
they bear only leaves of youth

my skies are murals of contrasts,
my hands find cracks in
the surfaces of every philosophy
I am an inner conflict
straying through gray areas
seeking some kind of revelation
about who and what I might be

since I am sitting here
in my poetry
comparing myself to nature
(is that not my origin?)

I just so want
to leave a trace
of my involuntary
yet unrelenting
existence

though I am not wiser than you

This poem is so relateable to anyone (including me). I find this as some kind of finding youreslf through the poems and I find it really beautiful. I like the rhythm of the song and how, somehow, it goes a little bit faster as you get more intimate and deeper. Also the ending, in which the meaning of the song is contained, is in my opinion the best. And ofcourse keep up with good work like this and like most of your other poems.

This is just extraordinary. And I somehow feel more connected to this one because I am also writing a similar poem.

though I am not wiser than you" - This pretty much sums it up. We all want to leave a trace of our existence. The thing that scares me the most is leaving this world without leaving a mark - as if all my life was a waste of time.
