THE GIFT OF TIME

A little discussion about what is truly importany in life.

The little hands I held today,

Brought to my face a smile.

And any troubles I may have had,

Left me for a while.

 

Even though you are short right now,

In emotions you are tall.

Possessing a great big growing heart,

In a body that is small.

 

 I watched you try to make a choice,

As your mind began to churn.

So many decisions lie ahead,

So much for you to learn.

 

It doesn’t take a pile of gold,

But simple things instead.

Like a story from your favorite book,

Before you go to bed.

 

It doesn’t take a great big toy,

Nor a nickel or a dime.

The best gift I can give to you,

Is just the gift of time.

This is an endearing tribute to what's really important in life. It reminds me of something that I was reading today where a video was created wherein some parents were asked, "If you could have dinner with any one person, who would it be?" They answered with the likes of Nelson Mandela, Marilyn Monroe, Jimmy Hendrix, and other famous people. They then turned the camera on the parents' children, asking them the same question. The children respond with, "The whole family" and "mom and dad." It's so sweet! Children serve as a mirror to really make us take a look at ourselves.

Thank you, children sometimes help us to realize things. We see things as complicated and they see things as very simple. I think most answers in life are simple, we just work really hard at making them complicated.
