Box

Box

A Poem by funeralmoon

You see a little girl with tears in her eyes
fighting to keep in those cries

never let down the walls I built
during the violent nights when I couldn't sleep

sweet and pure was this fragile girl
but fearing the hurt I built a box

inside that iron box I kept that fragile heart
and no one would ever hurt it again

one day years later I met a little girl
just like me, with a hurt heart

this little girl knew as if she could see
with her ocean eyes, my broken heart

she cared for me, with those kind eyes
even when the anger, took its toll

the nights when the pain was too much
when the tears were too much to hold back

the burden carried by her alone
when I couldn't stand, she held me up

but all the while she was hurting too
and I never saw, I never knew

Excellent write. Moving. It touches the right emotions at the right time and leaves the reader wondering if they too know that girl.
