My Immortal Love

My Immortal Love

A Poem by Althelia Marie Caine

As the sun rises,
we walk along
the moon chilled
sand,
the water washing
slowly over our feet,
our hands interlaced,

We walk
hand in hand
as the vibrant
colors of sun rise
paint themselves
across the brightening
sky,

You turn to me
and gather me
into your warm
embrace,
Tears well in my anguished
eyes as you smile
sadly down at me,
your ebony hair falling
across your eyes,
a mist covered grey-blue,

The sun rises higher,
you tell me not to worry,
that in another life
we'll meet again,
the tears fall from my eyes
as you touch your lips
to mine,
the sun breaks
the surface
and you whisper
I love you
once more
as the sun hits
your skin
and you turn
to ashes,

I fall to my knees
and weep
at my greatest loss,

My Love
