The Almost Lover

The Almost Lover

A Poem by Louise Whalen

I used to drown in your kiss
I used to drown in your kiss
Dragging blades for symmetrical scars
Dragging blades for symmetrical scars
I used your kiss to drown
Symmetrical blades dragging for scars

The thinning almost lover and her big girl dream
The thinning almost lover and her big girl dream
In passion there is no absence
In passion there is no absence
The big girl thinning and the almost lover dream
In absence there is no passion

Greeting indifference in final relief, I
Greeting indifference in final relief, I
Farewell rewinding to your obsession
Farewell rewinding to your obsession
I am final indifference relief greeting
Rewinding obsession to your farewell

I used her dragging blades for big girl scars
Drown your obsession
There is no passion in your thinning kiss
Greet absence lover, to relief
and in final indifference,
I farewell the almost symmetrical dream
