Regularity

Regularity

A Poem by Eve
"

This is anger at the same person, but also anger at society.

"
Thank you
It's common courtesy
To thank someone when they compliment you
Excuse me
That's what you say when you cut through a group

But what do you say when you cut through a family?
How do you respond to the mindless text of who you thought was your father?
To the common courtesy he uses
When he uses what he taught you
To hurt you

How do you respond when your whole body aches from his words?
From the way being alone makes you feel
How he made you feel
No one tells you what to do
When it really matters
When you really need someone listen

Instead they give you the rules of etiquette
They tell you to stop the drama
Keep your chin up and your back straight
Oh, and don't forget to smile

We're told to keep smiling
We're told to ignore the pain
But don't give up
Don't hold it in

How are we supposed to find help
When it's rude to be honest
When it's just so melodramatic to explain what we're going through
Oh right, we're not allowed to find help
Because that would make us low
That would make us pitiful

Maybe that's why I resorted to keeping quiet
Maybe that's why they call me shy
Because if I were to open my mouth
If I were to say something
Anything
I would be crazy

But I refuse to be crazy
I refuse to be looked down on
So instead I pretend everything is okay
I pretend my father still loves me
I pretend I'm naive and I don't understand the pain of the real world
Just so I can be pitied for being shy
But at least I'm not dramatic
At least I follow the normal regime of the rest of the world
At least I'm liked

Wow. this really draws you in deeper and deeper, right from the first stanza. I really felt the powerful words and emotions speak. Profoundly to my heart and soul. I could actually feel your suffering and pain. And the overwhelming hurt. Someone who should be so close to you. Your own father. And also society in general. Turning their back on you as well. Like no one gave a hoot. To be honest. I am not surprised. Humans, in general, are selfish people. Who only care about number one in general. Before they even notice anyone else around them. So no matter in a family, the relationship at work. Humans namely think of themselves first and foremost. I guess that is why some relationship never last. Because as soon as the women have a child. He runs to the hills. And off he goes. Can not or will not take responsibility. And responsibility in society. For the majority of people. just turn a blind eye. And look the other way.

Actually Eve we are just too similar..Actually I also don't like my father..I rarely talk properly with him..Because he has actually devastated my and my mother's life..You wrote this beautifully and I can feel your pain as I read this..But actually I can relate myself with you and I can understand the way you must be feeling...Anyway , be strong..I am always there to help you out my friend...
Keep on writing..

That was my goal when writing this poem, I wanted others to know they're not the only ones in pain. .. read more

Yes...I will be also always there with you as we both are in same situations...
This is the kind of writing that helps the healing. Somewhat of a sarcastic release, I presume. Venting is extra effective when written.
