For C.

For C.

A Poem by Libby McKeown

She lingers,

lost in a memory.

My lifetime

stands in the snow

armorless

waving goodbye.

Death smiles,

and takes another bite of his cookie.

The lepers laugh,

it's just another day.

Such a short piece, but still meaningful. The images of snow and death tied together are always very powerful. This piece, short as it is, reminds me of 'The Book Thief', my favorite book. Maybe you'd read it? (If not, you should. It's incredible. I've read it three times, and I don't reread books very often.) Anyways, this reminds of that. The story involves snow, and a very sardonic Death character.

I especially loved the part about Death eating a cookie. Almost a childlike characteristic. Very nicely written. :)

Short but very meaningful piece, I really like this. Especially with it's play on symbolism and how you connect such complex things, then turn them into simple meanings. Priceless.
I love this piece, it's just, simply put, amazingly beautiful.

Or maybe not. I always play with my words so long. Moving them here and there. Couldn't resist.
