The Crossroad

The Crossroad

A Poem by SpiceCookie
"

Which way will you go?

"
Along a gravel path, you follow to your destiny.
But then comes the time
when you meet a crossroad.

If you continue forward,
you go to the city.
The bustling social world of happiness,
of love and cheer,
of great kindness and charity to be found.
The town of highs and lows,
of thoughts and hope,
of future and motivation,
of snow and rain and sun and clouds.
The town of joy.

This is the main path.
The most appealing at first sight by the new road and fresh paint,
by the trees and meadows and flowers.
The path most take to find their heart.
The only path some notice
throughout their entire life,
and the path others fight to find.
This is the path to everything.

But there also is a one-way, dirt path.
It's thin and almost hidden along the path to the city.
If you travel down this path,
the dirt ground stays the same.
But the surroundings change from green-leaved trees
to bare trees
to moors of grass and heather
to moors of empty wasteland.
And then to nothing.

This is the path to self-destruction.
To forever isolation,
to depression.
To hopelessness.
This is the path where the sun shines, but there is no meaning to it.
The path where the fog never clears and the sky is grey.
This is the path to nothing.
