Those Wonderful Cuts

Those Wonderful Cuts

A Poem by lilylorenzo
"

I am human and I have had a self-harm problem due to past abuse and trauma also bullying when I was younger. self-harm isn't weird its just a way some people cope because they don't know any other way

"

Those Wonderful Cuts

Cold, sharp, silver metal blade.

It all started since the 7th grade.

You made me really happy and feel safe.

You were my safe heaven and took me to a better place.

I still love that cold, sharp metal blade.

With you I don’t have to hide and put up a charade.

I love the feeling you give me and those new scars.

Oh how you release me from the cage with no more bars.

The need for you now is so stronger than ever.

I won’t stop, I can’t stop, and I mean it never.

A lot of people won’t ever know what you mean to me.

You keep me from exploding and just let me be.

I love each and every cut, especially when the blood flows.

As I go along, each cut gets bigger. They grow!

Drip, drip, drip the blood hits the floor.

The adrenaline. What if they open that door?

You take all my pain, it disappears just evades.

Oh my love for you cold, sharp, silver metal blade

Hello lilylorenzo,

That is a tough topic but you explained it very well at the beginning. You have given me a new understanding and I thank you for this. It was hard poem to read, I won't lie to you. BUT, I admire you for taking your past abuse and putting into words. Your poetry is harsh and gritty and there is definitely a niche for it. I hope that your poetry helps you to heal some of those deep scars because sometimes it is the scars we do not see that cut the deepest. Best of luck to you, my friend!

Thank you for sharing!

Kind regards,

Schatzi

I understand were your coming from. You seem to have two ways of dealing with the way you feel. You one hurt your self then you write so I not here to say what you should do be I would do what ever I want so I have no right to tell you what to do. But you can do as you please as long as you can look for something to cut the blades back. Find something that makes you feel the need to put down the cold blades.

There have been many writings about self-harm on this website, so most of us are familiar with how it goes. I don't think you need to defend yourself or explain that you're not weird. Your byline takes away from your message, like you aren't fully owning your reality, like you're apologetic about being the way you are. This is understandable, but your writing could be more powerful if you just own it and tell it with all the intensity that you really feel when you engage in self-harm. This poem sounds sing-songy, which is OK for a different message, but it seems to lessen the power of your truth in this message. In places, it feels like you are picking words to go for the rhyme, rather than reaching deep inside to show us whatever is raging inside you, that causes you to do this, or showing us the immense relief that it brings. I think your poetry crafting is pretty good here, but it just doesn't match the intensity of the message you are sharing. I know it's really hard to let out the raw feelings, so we tend to do a word play instead. Maybe not with this message, maybe later on when you've had more practice, but some day I hope you can just pour out your gut-level feelings about such a powerful truth, such that you aren't apologizing or trying to "pretty it up" with fancy rhymes.
