The Last Leaf

The Last Leaf

A Poem by Linear
"

Autumns song

"

When autumn winds blow cold and hard

tugging, pulling as the last leaves hold on

to the last of summers promise

A promise never quite realised

never quite fulfilled

She whispered so many sweet things

of fragrances new

of delights not yet tasted

She swirled inside every fibre of body and soul

almost begging to take hold

Even the many showers

could not dampen the spirit

a spirit more than ready to soar

But days draw on

summer is gone

and shadows grow long

as the first leaf fell

sounding out a silent death knell

For the final leaf has fallen

given in to autumns last gale.

Although this is about the fall, look a little deeper and you may see it's not that at all

i have returned once again to this poem to read it again...and each time i read the meaning is defferent...hmm but to go a little farther..you shall see that this also can mean the last breath taked by a person, the last of love dying, oh so many meanings of this poem....but does only one meaning fit this poem..i say not...to each person who reads will have their own. this truly one of my favorites.

Seems this could be about death .. it's a tragedy wrapped in autumn, truth in its way but with a secret lying inside the stanzas

Beautiful but so sad.

There is a somber darkness that sweeps over this song of the seasons... A letting go of leaves and love and even light itself.. Powerfully visualized.

The last two lines make this piece really sad. the imagery is done really well allowing me to picture the falling leaves.
