A Predicament

A Predicament

A Poem by AriesGirl
"

Being the one to end a relationship isn't always easy.

"

It's funny, isn't it?

People expect you to feel good after you break up with the person who hurt you so badly.

“Wow!” they say, “You finally realized how awful he was!”

“You seem so much happier now; you are much better off without him!”

“You deserve someone better.”

And on the surface, it makes sense, right? He did something terrible, and you decided it was over. Now you're free from the heartache and worry, free to move on.

And you do act happier- after all, it was your decision to end things, and it would seem stupid to feel dejected.

But why don't you feel happier?

Why does the hurt linger on and on?

Why do you miss him so much?

Why is it all so confusing?

Why do you feel so lost?

Maybe it's because you trusted him.

Maybe it's because you never saw this coming, and you weren't ready to be alone.

Maybe it's because you thought he truly loved you.

Maybe you will never know for sure about any of this mess.

That's why love sucks.

This is a poem that I wrote way back in high school. It got a lot of good reviews back then, and I was wondering what people think of it now. I wrote it for a poetry contest at the time.

Gee
So relatable at present as a good friend is in the throes of a messy divorce and is seeing a grief counsellor to come to terms with her loss.
Well written, well done that lady
