Written to Decay

Written to Decay

A Poem by Davidgeo
"

.

"

the bad days,

they will eat you alive.

there isn't a phrase you could turn

that could save you from that...

not from the worst days,

    incarnate,

the one's vicious for a living . . .

the one's some were born to live.

(without question)

               painfully... for a living.

sometimes we lie,

pretend and compete

like everything was equal.

(hello nature)

what describes you?

     the winner

(and who are we now?)

the worst parts,

(in this moment)

     making way

                      can you hear it?

the tone and tenor of a voice,

                  about to die. . .

screaming, "i never lived!"

the sound one makes at the precipice of disaster

every time. . .

when they expect a savior.

it's why i laugh sometimes,

on the surface,

why I lack compassion.

the only easy day was yesterday,

(you don't seem to realize that)

some people die climbing mountains

some people pray and waste away

(we are all of us single pages of some book)

                 - written to decay

 So why complain?

(for a living)

We all die in the end

 anyway,

so go tell the love of your life that you love her ...

for no reason.

(it doesn't really get too much better)

 - than loving for no reason

unconditionally -

                             it propels the species

"it propels the species"

Appreciated very much. It propels the species, if nothing else. Love is nature's way of ensuring perpetuation, an inbuilt, evolutionary patch of fool's software to maximise survival.

The end is mostly wretched, a whimper before the final oblivion. No savior waiting to hand out redemption. No convocation parties. Better to know and accept it, be ready for it. A very introspective piece...

I love how that last bit reads like a glimmer of hope. I read it with a sense of resigned acceptance then there was this spark of making it all worth it, which is exactly how love 'propels the species'.
