We Can Only Live Knowing We Die

We Can Only Live Knowing We Die

A Poem by Davidgeo

I can only live knowing I die

Fleeting euphoria is meaning

Pain and rage and love and hurt

Who I’ve met, what I’ve done

The ending tragedy, the dying

I know it comes, it is meaning

The beginning miracle, the birthing

Forever and ever always it’s everything

Knowing the end, knowing the beginning

I could never change a moment

I would never change a thing

It's a cheerful thought isn't it? From the moment we are born we are on a pathway to death. And we don't know how long that pathway is going to be. If we all focused on that we would end up nuts. The good thing about being young is that we aren't touched so much by death. By the time you've been on this planet 40 years or so, it's a numbers game and the deaths start to increase. Probably grandparents, then parents. If you are unlucky you might lose friends and siblings. By the time you are in your 70's you spend half your time attending funerals. And that is why you make the most of the time you've got because one day you'll wake up and think, what the hell has happened to the years. Just pondering on your words.
