as great deniers of the obvious
for a living as homosapiens 
we've all convinced ourselves
soundly in a modern way
of various stories, tales, lies, and
        exaggerations

'uniquely'

about ourselves

for our short term gains

and the one's we love

and that precious paper progress

denying our long term pains

justifying all the costs 

today

because we're 'special'

today

because we're 'worth' it

to 'us'

and we're no f****n' idiots

today

not for now

so the short term is worth 'it'

(we're not stupid)

overall 

(we're pretty dumb)

Short terms gains aren’t too bad I think, if the returns on investments are fabulous viz-a-viz a modest, fixed flow from staid, longer term plans (if not taxed too badly :)) I don’t know about the tax laws in your country but in India, we can make a packet this way :)

Otherwise, I do relate to what you said. Instant gratification aside, the impact of our today on our tomorrow is critical and so decisive sometimes.
