Her

Her

A Poem by Rei Cn

"You're blooming recently,"
they would always say.
Her eyes filled with glee,
she would answer them with a smile.
"Maybe you're inspired,"
they would assume.
"You're in-love, right?"
they would then add.
She would just laugh,
because, partly, they are right.

Yes, she's in-love.
But they never would have guessed,
that it is the same girl who smiles,
whenever she smiles,
mirth in her bright eyes.
They never would have expected,
that she loves that girl,
who cries with her,
whenever she is sad.

Yes.
Yes, she's in-love.
She's in-love with that person,
who always greets her,
everytime she stands
in front of the mirror.

Yes.
Yes, she's in-love.
She's in-love with that girl,
who never fails to reflect,
that pure love she offers.

Because for her,
in a world full of betrayals,
in a place where you're uncertain whom to trust,
there is nothing wrong,
Nothing wrong with loving one's self,
more than anyone else.

So yes.
Yes, she's inspired.
Yes, she's in-love.
She's in-love with herself.

Thank you for entering my competition.

This gives light to the 'world of betrayals' that you describe and I feel that if every person in the world loved themselves a little more they could share this true and 'pure love' you speak of.

Once again, thank you.

The poem has a very interesting structure. I like how the different breaks set up the rhythm, it gives it an almost conversational or stream of consciousness type of tone.

I think it's clever of you to begin the poem with a question, and then draw attention to the first line of each stanza as the response to the question. Almost like you're writing out a logical argument to justify her self-love.

Very structurally creative!

Gee
Learning to love oneself is a major factor in living life with a smile on your face. Too many try to be what they think others wish of them and end up in a right ol' pickle.
