For You

For You

A Poem by Charles Konsor

We all want to believe our children will love us
Hold us, kiss us, stay with us,
and wrap their little hands around our fingers
Big eyes watch big people with big love

But they're a squirmy type
Run away, out of our arms
No matter how far we stretch

Exploring dust bunnies in corners
Carrying shoes to bury in the sand box
They all, will all, run away

And you see then,
Perhaps they are not yours.

Individuals behind those big eyes
And we, again, are left to watch
Like past loves left,
Mother, fathers, gone,
And a thousand friends,
drifted away

We own no one,
Our children owe nothing
And we will all realize how little we are
How alone we are

And in that we must find some happiness
We must find some truth
For them, for us,
For you

I am here, in this place you describe so well.

Alone, in the middle. Alone as a son and a father.
Both drawing away, and having been drawn away from.

My father; me, a father and
My sons; me a son.

And do they see the writer's heart I wear on my writer's sleeve, my parents, my children. me, in the middle.

We own no one, however the little smile
will make you feel like king. You own no one
and yet you would lay down your life for this little
person.
What a great achievement, that you have had some small
responsibility for this little person being here on earth.
You own no one, but the thought of ever losing this small
being causes more anguish than a thought of losing everything
you own.
This small poem calls up images to refresh and renew us.
Thank You ! Well done.

Wow. I have two squirmy ones and this really resonates. Eloquently written, simply stated - profound poetry. I've enjoyed the few works of fiction I've read of yours, but this poem was an undiscovered gem.

My first poem of yours charles, an impressive read. So true about our children, we are merely their gaurdians until they can grow away to be themselves, independently. All the best from Tai

This is so very beautiful and speaks volumes and chapters to my heart today. I'm sorry I had never read it before.

How very true!
You nailed it down to only these few words, and there's all in it - all the truth we don't like - we don't want to believe, but it is how it is. That's life - as simple as that!
GREAT WORK!

I really like this, it's one of those poems that uncovers a truth you kinda knew was always there but it was until you read the poem that the true realisation comes. We are all people who just want to find something in this crazy world...
so almost everyone can relate to this, I see my siblings growing up around me and while they are MY siblings they are their own..
Great write Charlie! well done.

Gosh I hope you're wrong. I've invested myself completely in my babies and if they run away I'll just have to run with them! But I suppose it could be true....(sniff) ~Tara
