Beauty

Beauty

A Poem by louwilding
"

how beauty mags make me feel

"

Its often said in magazines

That beauty's all life really means

And in some places a size eight

Can be considered overweight

What ever happened to those girls

Whos beauty was not size imposed?

I wonder what it is theyd think

Of watching young girls shrink and shrink?

But what I really hate the most

Is how I feel about their boasts

That if I eat a slice of cake

That I will put on extra weight

Its said they eat three meals a day

And yet their bodies waste away

By eating tissue, cotton fluff

And other pointless filling stuff

That tricks them into feeling full

Their lives must be so very dull

So counting every calorie

Is really not the way for me

This is a real tragedy that we live in today. I think its from the media pushing everybody to be thin and perfect (according to them). Be yourself and don't let the peer pressure or media get to you. We are all different that's what makes us so unique. Why must we all be placed in a certain box? This was a good poem, I liked it very much.

I thinks this is the impression young girls are given about how their body should look. I barley see magazines were there is plus size model or a woman or even man who isn't on a strict diet. I watch Americas next top model and though the girls were beautiful , I noticed there eating habits and how girl who did fit the height, weight or sometimes cheek bone structure weren't considered model material. Your poem is well put together and talks about something models go through as well as how their presented in the public eye. Thanks for sharing !!

Working

This poem very crisply brings out the mental traps that young girls fall for after being bombarded by the media showing anorexic models.
Eat healthy, and remain beautiful, is the message that i could comprehend from this poem. The poem transcends all cultures and ethnicity, as every race has a straight jacket concept of beauty and it keeps changing.
In India in the 70 and 80s, actresses without a curve here and a flab there were frowned upon. Well rounded body as accepted.
Nice writing. The poem conveys the right message.

I like the way you bring this subject down to earth by taking a personal approach to it and examining the myths behind the glossy images.

This is a playful dig at the size obsessed press. But times they are a-changing thankfully. Curves are the way to GO !
I got a sense of Pam Ayres vs Victoria Wood here louwilding. Good poem.
