you are my sunshine

you are my sunshine

A Poem by Lil T
"

i wrote this for my oldest son who will be 16 way too soon.

"

is it a rite of passage for a mother to mourn the smallness of her children when they approach adulthood?

the pinky swears and lap filled warmth of I love you for forever

finger paints and small dirty hands touching with exaggerated softness

growing in to a young man

a person of your own

intelligent, independent and self aware

i love you

and i miss your small past cocoon

as you grow to blossom and bloom

crooked handsome smile making young ladies swoon

my baby is going to be a man soon

walking side by side in the sun

casting your young willow shadow on me

and the small shadow of a boy

on warm concrete

is it a rite of passage for a mother to mourn the smallness of her children when they approach adulthood?

yes

it is

parental duality

with love i shed tears for small toes

and bed time stories

i happily trade them with

‘night mom see you tomorrow can i have some money?
