A Darker Shade of Blue

A Darker Shade of Blue

A Poem by L S

"A Darker Shade of Blue"

I can hear the song my lover's infatuated heart sings
But he does not sing for me

I read the words my lover wrote on the walls
But the love he wrote is not meant for me at all

I don't want to go
I want him to tell me to stay

I know it's wrong to want this but it feels so right
I want those electric kisses Laced with nothingness, I don't mind

Put another record on, you know we could stay up into the dawn
Tell me about your bottle of charm in which you’re so devout
Pour another drink and tell me what it’s like to have yourself so figured out

Advocate my mistakes through and through
You said love is for two but I guess my love just isn't for you

You're certainly not an angel but I swore I saw heaven when I looked into your eyes

I can live without you yes I can
I wasn't the one, I guess I never made you a man

But if the things we love kill us
Then I wanna die in your arms
And if there's ever beauty in death then I’d like to die beautiful

Now All the colors have drained to black and blue
I couldn't let go of this because I thought I needed you

I walk in beauty
I talk like a queen
I am all you've ever wanted but you don't deserve me

Beautifully capturing the highs, the lows and the lowers of loving and living and when fate connects us to a lesser soul. From the first line, you capture the emotional rollercoaster of thought and emotion we put into others, that isn't always returned as fervently as it is given.
You are of course correct, they don't deserve you, but by the time they realise, it will be too late for them and you will have moved on, leaving them belatedly feel what they put you through, enough to write this wonderful piece.
