Elf Stories: Wet

By Lucien Maier

Edited By Temperance Penrod

The clouds were thick, but I wanted to ride. Elf was in great running order with a couple of her long standing issues recently solved. Also an ABATE meeting, so of course, I wanted to ride desperately.

With no major rain falling I ask T if I could go, she hesitated but knew I needed the time on the road. She sent me off and I started my ride. The ride into the Salt Lake Valley was nothing less than glorious.

I love that you are personifying your bike, its a writing choice that I think works really well with this story. It works well with the story because it puts you into the perspective of the narrator and helps you understand what its like to ride and go on adventures with your bike. Its keeping me engaged and wanting to read more! I'm enjoying these.

Consumed with envy but still too smart to ride. I'm certain I would never have lived this long.

I'll never forget riding in the rain on the back of my Grandaddy's bike. Great writing, love how you can feel the connection.

Most of my road bike time was on the west coast of Norway, so wet riding was the norm, in spite of having proper waterproof gear, I still managed to arrive at the destination wet. I felt the chill you described in your words. "Lostle" yeah, why not, just a little lost, not bad enough to have to ask for directions, but still uncertain of where you are. Good word.

Sounds as if you have a really smart bike. It should have had the sense to turn around and go home in spie=te of you.

Good story. You have a very deep bond with your bike and I liked the way you described that bond in the story.

You make riding sound enticing.

A very good story my friend. I need a long ride and vacation. I haven't left Michigan in 10 years. I like the respect for your bike. Thank you for the outstanding story.

Like the story too..might be worth making the non-dialogue paragraphs somewhat longer to put the dialogue into the forefront, and cut some of the first person pronouns out.
