Beyond the Surface

Beyond the Surface

A Poem by Miles W.
"

A poem I thought up during band camp this past week talking about the rivalry between Bowling Green and Toledo, and any other school rivalries out there. And maybe even problems around the world.

"
When facing the direction of a certain school,
people will hiss and even boo.
All for the sake of a game,
that in the end is just the same.
Every year, warriors rise and fall,
for simply the fun and joy of it all.
Sports is a place of strength and power.
No place for weak men to cower.
But what if we put our differences aside,
and looked at the world together in stride?
When I look in that direction of the sky,
do you know what I find?
I see many a green leaf on many a tree,
and farmland as far as the eye can see.
I see the same blue bright sky,
that fills with stars every bright night.
I see a wonderful and beautiful town,
who can stand up and get loud.
But who is to say that it is only reserved there?
Any place is like this without worry or care.
Sure, each town has their differences and plights,
but in the end, we all have the power of sight.
When not blinded by battlefields of warships,
we can all sit together at the table of fellowship.

I like this. It takes me down memory lane which is always a good thing. I like the wording and your imagery fills in the rest.

Wow...This poem was intense.
You summed up everything beautifully in last line.
I really like the rhythm of your poem, it was just constant and I liked it.
Coming to the core of your poem, the way you conveyed your message through this poem is amazing.
Your call to get together for peace is what we all want. You, not only asked us to come together but went one step further showing us how Peace will change our miserable live.
Well done my friend, you have a great future ahead.

It's a rallying call to peace; to discard those differences as entirely irrelevant, (which they are.) I like the way you link competition in sport to the problems this poor old planet is facing.

One day perhaps, we will all cheer for the same side.

Beccy.
