Night Thoughts

Night Thoughts

A Poem by M. A. Kilcorse
"

The problems we can't face in the daylight, become the thoughts that haunt us at night.

"

But why do I scoff when the sun has hid

Away behind the line of Oaks?

Do I tremble? Do I quake?

Do I cry thrash scream and dream

When the sun has hid away?

Is it the light to

Caress my skin;

Each piece of glowing dust

To set fire to my sin.

No.

It is fear.

Fear that I will always be alone;

Trapped by my broken thoughts

And flawed perception.

That is why I scoff

When the sun has hid.

For all my complaints,

I dare not laugh when She's awake.

Afraid of the dark? Solidarity? Or yourself? It's a nice piece. The questions in the first stanza were answered by just one line. Being alone, with all your thoughts. The night thoughts. I find them scary, too. When it's bright outside, people are loud and noisy. It's annoying but it distracts you from your thoughts. And they've gone somewhere else when the night comes, you're all by yourself. You have to deal with these thoughts which keep on bugging you. And sleeping isn't really the answer. Somehow, it helps. Pallative cure.

I use writing not just as an escape, but as a construct. To see non-physical ideas take life in the form of places and people is the magic and mystery of creative writing. more..
