The Stage Show

The Stage Show

A Poem by Mala Mukherjee
"

A performance on stage as a metaphor of life.

"

//The Stage Show//

The stage was set
Audience high on adrenaline
Waited for the dawn to sublime
Anticipation was palpable.

No script no rehearsals
A one time performance
The podium was relentless
No scope of a second spell.

Actor heaved with expectation
A sweat ran down his chilled spine
A crown embellished with thorns
Or a bed of aromatic ornated flower

As the stop watch ticked
Minutes ran into seconds
Hustles around the Green room
The show is about to begin.

Behind the curtain hue of dark
Faded into shades of sapphire
Lights Sound Action
Called out Life, the director.

I guess we are all a one man show looking for an audience. Some of us are looking for a room full of standing ovations. Some of us are looking for a individual invitation of......"Proud of you".

I enjoyed your poem. Thanks for sharing.
